The Grub Fest 2018: DSSC Recommends The Best From The Culinary Extravaganza

The tents are up and the food preps are on. The Grub Fest is back. The weekend is near (ahoy!) and we’re ready to cool our heels, stuff ourselves with a multitude of food, and take on this earlier-than-usual onslaught of summer in style. So get set to clink your glasses, and chopsticks, and don that loose pair of pants (trust us, you’ll need it), as #DSSCRecommends what you must not miss at the fourth edition of the culinary extravaganza.

Dao

Nothing makes us more chuffed than some nifty Pan Asian fare. We love their unlimited dimsum menus and can’t wait to bite into a couple of those (read all) at the food fest. This is also the tent we’d make way to for some fragrant red, yellow, and green Thai curries, and our fix of sushi and sashimi.

Wok to Walk

Wok to Walk has three sizzling hot outposts to boast of in #OurCity. They bring to the grub table Asian food in vegan, gluten-free, and regular avatars. Choose your base (a variety of noodles or rice), pick the veggies you love, add a topping you desire – fried onion, fried garlic, sesame seeds mix, jalapenos, peanuts, choose from their eight scintillating sauces, and get going.

Fat Lulu’s

Pizza makes are world go round, and we never walk out of any food fest without our fair share. At The Grub Fest, we suggest you don’t either. Bite into Fat Lulu’s hand-rolled, thin crust, wood fired, gourmet pizzas to attain salvation. Extra cheese? Yes, please. And if you have room for more, call for their pastas in a classic Aglio Olio or Alfredo sauce. Thank us after polishing off those last dregs.

Binge

While Binge’s super fresh burger buns often make an appearance at the DSSC HQ, we cannot wait to indulge in the bakery’s offerings at The Grub Fest. When it comes to a sweet tooth we are blessed with a massive one. Cheesecakes, donuts, cookies, banoffee pie – bring it ON.

Ihop

All-day breakfast is our thing and if it is comprised of toothsome pancakes, waffles, crepes, and egg preparations from Ihop, we’re sold. The American eatery’s top notch nosh will have you make second trips to this tent for an extra drizzle of those decadent syrups – Old Fashioned and Butter Pecan are our top picks.

Baking Bad

If we walk out of one pizza tent and spot another, another binge ought to be on the cards. Other than making our world go round, the pie also has the power to makes us go around in circles. Baking Bad caters to daytime and post-bedtime pie cravings with equal gusto. Take a shot at their fabulous toppings from Shroomberg to Prosciutto Di Parma. Did someone say pizza goals?

DSSC at The Grub Fest

Aye, aye! While you go trotting around The Grub Fest, don’t forget to say hello to Team DSSC. We will be there all three days popping 15 smashing flavours of popcorn with Popcorn & Company in tow. Ready. Munch. Go.

Truckers’ party

When the best from F&B industry get behind a food truck, the results got to slay. With the expertise of the best chefs from the team at The Lalit on board and an array of cuisines on offer, The Lalit Food Truck Company is a must-visit at the festival. Their Mexican delicacies come recommended by the team and we’re heading straight for ‘em tacos, tortillas, and churros. Grub Trotters truck features next on our list and their fusion sliders pair well with beer or iced-tea, as you please. Whatever your pick, don’t forget to ask for a dash of their Ghost Chilli Sauce in your slider; it marries the heat of Thai Red Eye Chilli and Naga Ghost Peppers to create a fiery concoction. If your tolerance for heat is negligible, then the lightly spiced Smoked Barbeque Sauce or a Creamy Italian Cheese Sauce will make your taste buds dance.

Tucking at the trucks done? Browse the well-curated Grub Market for a peek at what’s new on supermarket shelves. Fill up your shopping bags with fresh produce, organic products, and an assortment of homemade goodies. If the all the shopping and eating has you working up a sweat, strap on a pair of roller skates and head to the ice-skating arena iSkate for some down time.

Culinary demos at The Grub Theatre will bring visitors face-to-face with star chefs such as Sarah Todd from Antares, Goa, and Kelvin Cheung from Bastian, Mumbai, besides IPL screenings for cricket fans.

Raise The Bar

Beer, vodka, whiskey, whatever your poison, The Grub Fest has you sorted. Erdinger Beer Garden, a picnic area, is just the kind of garden everyone needs to stroll into this summer. Absolut and Jameson bars will keep the spirits high as ace mixologists shake and stir heady cocktails to keep up with the mood of the festival.

Get Groovin’

Besides the culinary extravaganza, the evening promises to be spectacular with performances by artists such as Guru Randhawa (April 7, 7 pm onwards). Folk music sensation Kutle Khan adds his rhythmical magic to the event (April 8, 5.30 pm onwards), while Ritviz’s bass heavy tunes will also come alive at Grub Arena (April 8, 8.30 pm onwards).
