Music Gigs You Can’t Miss This Week

Show us a person who says they don’t enjoy live music, and we’ll show you someone with their pants on fire. Middle Eastern fusion to jazz to DJs playing in a theatre, Delhi NCR has top-notch treats lined for the musically inclined, and if you’re not form the gang, be prepared to cross over to the (not so) hum-drum side. #DSSCRecommends is back with suggestions for the city’s lineup of ace performances of the week. Midweek blues or Sunday laze, there’s a gig to suit your every jig. So don’t wait up, put a song in your day and a skip in your step as you dive into these evenings full of jive.

Middle Eastern Fusion by Hadar & Madhav

Two souls from different lands come together in a foreign country to weave together a story of travels across the world with their music. No, that’s not fiction, it’s the real life story of the couple Hadar & Madhav which unfolds at Zorba The Buddha today. France-born Madhav was trained in jazz and gypsy music before he visited India only to fall in love with Hindustani and Carnatic music; and Israel-born Hadar was a western classical pianist before she followed the same route, becoming a Hindustani loyalist. With their Middle Eastern Fusion concert they bring to you the story of their travels of over 10 years and how ‘devotion to music brings two souls together’. Head to their performance for a sublime melange of Indian, sufi, jazz, and middle eastern music.

The When & Where:

Wednesday, April 19 at 6:30 pm: Zorba The Buddha (No. 7, Tropical Drive, MG Road, Ghitorni, New Delhi).

Hang Massive India Tour

This week is all about the India connect. Like Hadar & Madhav the Hang duo connection was sparked in the country, on the shores of Goa. Danny Cudd and Markus Offbeat formed Hang Massive seven years back and have performed all over the world since then. Channeling their music through the Hang instrument, they’ve also ventured into fusion tunes with electronic music. If music that soothes your senses and makes you want to shift to the dance floor at the same time is your thing, then Hang Massive is for you. Listen to their first compilation that rocked the world here.

The When & Where:

Thursday, April 20 at 9pm: antiSocial (9A & 12, 3rd Floor, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi).

A platform for artists to create and thrive, AU spans across Indian and world music genres, with a-cappella being their A-game. Not just musicians, AU acts as a launch board for all forms of performing arts, though this week is all about tunes and AU promises to have us swaying along some ace music mix to kickstart the weekend. The band Zokova will be performing along singers Sherry Mathew, Clifford Afonso, Subhadra Kamath, Devyani Pershad, Kamakshi Khanna, and Mehak Anand with musicians Amar Pandey (bass & keys), Subash Gabriel (drums), and Ritwik De (guitar & keys). They’ll cover songs from the 60s & 80s, with some a-capella thrown in – sealing the deal for a Fri-yay evening for you!

Back to the Beginning

Five musicians come together to create an evening of RnB and soul. Creating the perfect mood to rev up for Saturday night are musicians Aman Mahajan (keys), Harshit Misra (Bass), Aveleon Giles (drums), and Sentirenla Lucia (vocals). Anshika Goyal, Sara Nishika Doyle, and Aashna Gupta will support them as the backup vocalists as the artists trace the beginnings of old school RnB and gospel music to its modern avatar today. Head here for a soulful start to Saturday.

The When & Where:

Saturday, April 22 at 9pm: Depot 48 (Level 2, N – 3, N – Block Market, G.K. I, New Delhi).

Migrations

A DJ performance in a theatre is not something you see (hear) everyday, but Atish & Praveen Achary are here to change just that. The theme of the evening is ‘migrations’, where Atish brings in his experiences from San Francisco and Praveen from Bengaluru. Deep, Tech, and Progressive House by Praveen is mixed with Atish’s emotive and ecstatic music. The two go beyond the typical DJ act and showcase their love for music in their beats, playing warm, diverse, and inviting tunes for you. It’s the perfect Sunday siesta to recharge for the week ahead.

The When & Where:

Sunday, April 23 at 4pm: OddBird Theatre (Dhan Mill Compound, SSN Marg, Chhatarpur, New Delhi).
