DSSC Recommends: Insta-stars In The Making

The trend of clicking art-worthy food is taking over our Instagram feeds & aren’t we glad. The best home bakers, food stylists and cooking enthusiasts in the country are building a steady following with their adept photography. A shout out to DSSC homeboy & ace baker Shivesh Bhatia who caught the Insta-train way before it was in vogue. Check out the sweet new instagrammers on the block who aren’t too far behind.

Ankiet Gulabani is a food writer who used to work with BBC GoodFood India & The Eat Post. He writes at Belly Over Mind & posts to Instagram from his blog. His writing is anecdotal, innovative and includes a variety of hacks that will make an amateur chef giggle with glee. Ankiet’s Instagram feed is something out of this world, what with everyday food looking like a spelled feast.

Asha Shiv is the creator of foodfashionparty.com. The Bangalore-based writer & photographer keeps her Instagram feed updated with a mouth-watering array of Indian sweets, fusion food like the malpua with ricotta-coconut rum cream & creative breakfast eggs. In a landscape of European food, her Indian dishes stand out and make us long for our grandmother’s cooking, just so we can add our own twist to it.

Himanshu Taneja’s Instagram page is a literal feast for the eyes. A food stylist and photographer, his compositions are some of the best we’ve come across. While his site has clear, concise recipes of the photos he posts, we don’t think we’ll be straying from his Instagram page anytime soon. His photographs are predominantly on the sweeter side of things with unconventional treats like tropical fruit yoghurt popsicles and baklava spiced panna cotta with a dash of soupy treats & breakfast wonders.

Madhuri Aggarwal is an artist, accessory designer and food stylist, for whom cooking is as creative an endeavour as any other. Her Instagram feed is stunning poetry of all that is the culmination of Indian herbs & flavours. It is refreshing to see desi tadka plated with such resplendence. The feed links back to her site where Madhuri is a wonderfully regular blogger with a new post every week.

The Purple Cinnamon Blog is run by Pallavi Shastry who claims that if she can cook, anybody can! This is the blog to start with if you’re prone to butterflies in your stomach at the thought of cooking but still want to give things a whirl in the kitchen. Her “makeover for leftovers” section will sort out any breakfast woes with yummy, easy-to-put-together healthy fare and if you’re in the mood to start from scratch, Pallavi’s Instagram feed is loaded with delish desserts & deceptively simple dishes.

Take a cue from your favourite Instagram blogger this week and try your hand at a recipe that catches your fancy! We’re sure there’s more than enough inspiration here to get you on a roll. At the very least, we’re sure you’re going to end up with some top-notch Insta-worthy photos anyway (#nofilter).
